“And when you said, ‘O Moses, we will not believe you until we see Allah outright,’” meaning: until we see Him visibly and clearly. “‘So the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on.’” Qatadah said: They were put to death as a punishment, then they were resurrected so that they could complete the remainder of their lifespans.
﴿وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَى لَنْ نؤمن لَك﴾ أَي: لن نصدقك ﴿حَتَّى نَرَى الله جهرة﴾ أَي: عيَانًا ﴿فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنْتُمْ تنْظرُون﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: أميتوا عُقُوبَة، ثمَّ بعثوا؛ ليستكملوا بَقِيَّة آجالهم
