"Indeed, those who disbelieve in God and His messengers and wish to discriminate between God and His messengers." Qatada said: They are the Jews and the Christians; the Jews believed in the Torah and in Moses, but disbelieved in the Gospel and Jesus, while the Christians believed in the Gospel and Jesus, but disbelieved in the Qur'an and Muhammad—peace be upon them all. "And wish to take a way between that." Al-Suddi said: It means a religion. God said: "Those are the disbelievers in truth," the verse. [Verse 152-153]
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يُفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَ اللَّهِ وَرُسُله﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: هم الْيَهُود وَالنَّصَارَى؛ آمَنت الْيَهُود بِالتَّوْرَاةِ وبموسى، وَكَفرُوا بالإنجيل وَعِيسَى، وَآمَنت النَّصَارَى بالإنجيل وَعِيسَى، وَكَفرُوا بِالْقُرْآنِ وَمُحَمّد - عَلَى جَمِيعهم السَّلام. ﴿وَيُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذُوا بَين ذَلِك سَبِيلا﴾ قَالَ السّديّ: يَعْنِي: دينا. قَالَ الله: ﴿أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَافِرُونَ حَقًّا﴾ الْآيَة. [آيَة ١٥٢ - ١٥٣]
