"Master of the Day of Judgment" (Maliki yawmi al-din). Qatada said: It is the day on which Allah will recompense people for their deeds.
Muhammad said: The meaning of "al-din" in the language is recompense. It is from the speech of the Arabs: "duntuhu bima sana'a" (I recompensed him for what he did), meaning: I rewarded him.
Yahya said: Whoever reads it as "Maliki" (King of), it is from the category of sovereignty (al-mulk); he says: He is the King of that Day.

﴿ملك يَوْم الدّين﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: يَوْم يَدِينُ اللَّهُ النَّاس فِيهِ بأعمالهم.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: معنى ((الدّين)) فِي اللُّغَة: الْجَزَاء؛ وَمن كَلَام الْعَرَب: دنته بِمَا صنع - أَي: جازيته.
قَالَ يَحْيَى: مَنْ قَرَأَ ﴿مَلِكِ﴾ فَهُوَ مِنْ بَابِ: الْمُلْكِ؛ يَقُولُ: هُوَ مَلِكُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ.
