Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 1 · Page 94

Translation · EN

Muhammad said: It has been said that humiliation is lowliness, and poverty is submissiveness.

"And they incurred wrath from Allah," meaning: they became deserving of it.

Muhammad said: The meaning of ba'u (they incurred/returned with) in the language is: they returned; it is said: I have incurred (bu'tu) such and such, and I bear it. It is not said except with evil.

"That is because they used to disbelieve in the signs of Allah," meaning: in the command of Allah. [Verse 61]
