"And when We took your covenant and raised over you the Mount," meaning: above your heads. "Take what We have given you," meaning: the Torah, "with determination," meaning: with diligence. "And remember what is in it," meaning: preserve what is in it and act upon it. The Mount (al-Tur) is a mountain at whose base they were situated [it was uprooted and hung over them] and they complied.
﴿وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطّور﴾ يَعْنِي: فَوق رءوسكم ﴿خُذُوا مَا آتيناكم﴾ يَعْنِي: التَّوْرَاة ﴿بِقُوَّة﴾ بجد ﴿واذْكُرُوا مَا فِيهِ﴾ أَي: احْفَظُوا مَا فِيهِ، وَاعْمَلُوا بِهِ. وَالطور: جبل كَانُوا فِي أَصله [فاقتلع وأشرف] فَفَعَلُوا.
