"And ask the village," meaning the people of the village "which we were in," meaning the people of Egypt, "and the caravan in which we came," meaning the people of the caravan.
﴿واسأل الْقرْيَة﴾ أَيْ أَهْلَ الْقَرْيَةِ ﴿الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا﴾ يَعْنِي: أْهَلَ مِصْرَ ﴿وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقبلنَا فِيهَا﴾ أَي: أهل العير.
