Translation · EN

"And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his parents to himself." Al-Hasan said: His father and his mother who gave birth to him.

Muhammad said: You say 'awaytu' (I sheltered) someone when you draw them to yourself, and 'awaytu'—without elongation—to someone, when you seek shelter with them.

﴿فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَى يُوسُفَ آوَى إِلَيْهِ أَبَوَيْهِ﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: أَبُوهُ وَأُمَّهُ الَّتِي وَلَدَتْهُ.

قَالَ محمدٌ: تَقُولُ: آوَيْتُ فُلانًا؛ إِذَا ضَمَمْتَهُ إِلَيْكَ، وَأَوَيْتُ - بِلا مَدٍّ - إِلَى فلانٍ إِذَا انضممت إِلَيْهِ.
