"Take my soul at death as one submitting to You, and join me with the righteous," meaning: the people of Paradise. Qatadah said: When Allah gathered his scattered affairs and brought joy to his eyes, he remembered the Hereafter and longed for it; he wished for [death], something no prophet before him had wished for.
﴿توفني مُسلما وألحقني بالصالحين﴾ يَعْنِي: أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: لَمَّا جَمَعَ اللَّهُ شَمْلَهُ وَأَقَرَّ عَيْنَهُ، ذَكَرَ الآخِرَةَ فَاشْتَاقَ إِلَيْهَا؛ فَتَمَنَّى [الْمَوْتَ] وَلَمْ يَتَمَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ قبله.
