"And to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and the earth" up to the end of the verse. The interpretation of al-Hasan: He said: 'And to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens,' then the speech was interrupted, then he said: 'and the earth'—meaning: and whoever is in the earth. 'Willingly and unwillingly'—meaning: willingly and reluctantly. Al-Hasan said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'By Allah, Allah does not make him who entered into Islam willingly like him who entered it reluctantly.' Al-Hasan said: 'And the one who was born into Islam is not included in the reluctant (category).'
"And their shadows in the mornings and the evenings." Al-Asal (the evenings): the late afternoon. The interpretation of al-Suddi: When things prostrate, their shadows prostrate with them.
﴿وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْض﴾ الآيَةَ، تَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ: قَالَ: وَلِلَّهِ يسْجد من فِي السَّمَوَات، ثمَّ انْقَطع الْكَلامُ، فَقَالَ: وَالأَرْضِ - أَيْ: وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْض ﴿طَوْعًا وَكرها﴾ أَيْ: طَائِعًا وَكَارِهًا، قَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: " وَاللَّهِ، لَا يَجْعَلُ اللَّهُ مَنْ دَخَلَ فِي الإِسْلامِ طَوْعًا كَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَرْهًا ".
قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: وَلَيْسَ يَدْخُلُ فِي الْكُرْهِ مَنْ وُلِدَ فِي الإِسْلامِ.
﴿وَظِلالُهُمْ بِالْغُدُوِّ وَالْآصَال﴾ الآصَالُ: الْعَشِيُّ، تَفْسِيرُ السُّدِّيِّ: إِذَا سَجَدَ الأَشْيَاءُ سَجَدَ ظِلُّهُ مَعَهُ.
