"And the Shaytan said when the matter has been decided," meaning: when judgment has been passed between the servants, and the people of Paradise have been distinguished from the people of the Fire. "Indeed, Allah promised you the promise of truth," meaning: He promised them Paradise upon holding fast to His religion, "and I promised you, but I betrayed you. And I had no authority over you," by which I could threaten you, "except that I invited you," through whispering, "and you responded to me."
"I cannot help you," meaning: I cannot aid you against the punishment of Allah, "nor can you help me."
﴿وَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ لَمَّا قُضِيَ الأَمْرُ﴾ أَيْ: فُصِلَ بَيْنَ الْعِبَادِ؛ فَاسْتَبَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ﴿إِن الله وَعدكُم وعد الْحق﴾ أَيْ: وَعَدَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى التَّمَسُّكِ بِدِينِهِ ﴿وَوَعَدْتُكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ وَمَا كَانَ لي عَلَيْكُم من سلطانٍ﴾ أَسْتَرْهِبُكُمْ بِهِ ﴿إِلا أَنْ دَعَوْتُكُمْ﴾ ٦ بالوسوسة ﴿فاستجبتم لي﴾.
