"Our Lord, forgive me and my parents." The interpretation of al-Hasan is: He prayed for his father that Allah might convert him from disbelief to faith, but He did not forgive him. When he died as an unbeliever, he disassociated himself from him and knew that he had perished.
Surah Ibrahim from verse (42) to verse (43).
﴿رَبنَا اغْفِر لي ولوالدي﴾ تَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ: دَعَا لأَبِيهِ أَنْ يُحَوِّلَهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ إِلَى الإِيمَانِ، وَلَمْ يَغْفِرْ لَهُ؛ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ كَافِرًا تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ، وَعَرَفَ أَنه قد هلك.
