His words: "And warn the people of a day when the punishment will come to them," meaning: warn them of that day.
"Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call." They requested a return to the world so that they might believe.
God said: "Had you not sworn before," meaning: in the world, "that you would have no removal," from the world to the Hereafter.
قَوْلُهُ: ﴿وَأَنْذِرِ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمُ الْعَذَاب﴾ أَيْ: أَنْذِرْهُمْ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ.
﴿رَبَّنَا أَخِّرْنَا إِلَى أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ نُجِبْ دعوتك﴾ سَأَلُوا الرَّجْعَةَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا؛ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنُوا.
قَالَ اللَّهُ: ﴿أَوَلَمْ تَكُونُوا أقسمتم من قبل﴾ أَيْ: فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿مَا لَكُمْ من زَوَال﴾ من الدُّنْيَا إِلَى الْآخِرَة.
