Translation · EN

[Indeed in that are signs for the mutawassimīn (those who discern/perceive)] Sufyān said: It means: for those who possess insight (al-mutaferrisīn).

Muhammad said: The meaning of al-tafarrus is: seeking guidance through the correctness of observation. It is said: "I discerned (tawassamtu) in such-and-such person good," and "I perceived him (tafarrastuhu)," meaning: I discerned/discerned him clearly.

﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ﴾ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: يَعْنِي: لِلْمُتَفَرِّسِينَ.

قَالَ محمدٌ: مَعْنَى التَّفَرُّسِ: الاسْتِدْلالُ بِصِحَّةِ النَّظَرِ؛ يُقَالُ: تَوَسَّمْتُ فِي فُلانٍ الْخَيْر، وتفرسته؛ أَي: تبينته.
