Translation · EN

[And We did not forbid anything besides Him]—meaning what they forbade for themselves of the bahira (the ear-slit camel), the sa'iba (the free-roaming camel), and other such things. Thus, Allah said in response to their statement: [Likewise did those before them. So, is there anything upon the messengers except the clear notification?].

﴿وَلا حَرَّمْنَا مِنْ دُونِهِ مِنْ شَيْء﴾ وَهُوَ مَا حَرَّمُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ مِنَ الْبَحِيرَةِ وَالسَّائِبَةِ وَغَيْرُ ذَلِكَ؛ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ جَوَابًا لِقَوْلِهِمْ: ﴿كَذَلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَهَلْ عَلَى الرُّسُلِ إِلا الْبَلاغُ الْمُبِينُ﴾.
