Volume 2 · Page 1369

Translation · EN

[Dakhala] between you," meaning: treachery and betrayal, "that one nation may be more numerous than another nation," meaning: more in number. He says: So you break the covenant of Allah for a people who are more numerous than another people.

Mujahid said: They used to form alliances with a people, then they would find others who were more numerous and more powerful, so they would break the alliance of the first group and form an alliance with those who were more powerful. Thus, they were forbidden from that.

"Allah only tries you thereby," meaning: He tests you, "and He will surely make clear to you," on the Day of Resurrection, "that over which you used to differ," regarding disbelief and faith.

Surah An-Nahl, from verse (93) to verse (100).
