"Say, have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing"—meaning: and make it deaf—"and your sight"—meaning: and make it blind—"and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah could bring it back to you?" meaning: what He has taken away. He says: No one can do that, nor can anyone restore it to you if He wills, except Him. "See how We diversify the verses"—meaning: We explain them—"then they turn away"—meaning: they turn away from them.
﴿قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ سمعكم﴾ [فأصمها] ﴿وأبصاركم﴾ فَأَعْمَاهَا.
﴿وَخَتَمَ عَلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ مَنْ إِلَهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِهِ﴾ أَيْ: بِمَا أَذْهَبَ؛ يَقُولُ: لَيْسَ بِفعل ذَلِكَ؛ حَتَّى يَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنْ شَاءَ إِلَّا هُوَ ﴿انْظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ الْآيَات﴾ نبينها ﴿ثمَّ هم يصدفون﴾ أَي: يعرضون عَنْهَا.
