"Say, I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of Allah"—meaning: the knowledge of the treasures of Allah which contain the punishment; because they said: "Bring us the punishment of Allah."
"Nor do I know the unseen," such that I would know when the punishment will come to you. "Nor do I say to you that I am an angel"; I am only a human being, but I am a messenger to whom revelation is sent. "I follow not except what is revealed to me"—meaning: I only convey from Allah what He has commanded me.
﴿قُلْ لَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِن الله﴾ أَيْ: عِلْمُ خَزَائِنِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي فِيهِ الْعَذَابُ؛ لِقَوْلِهِمْ: ﴿ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ الله﴾.
﴿وَلَا أعلم الْغَيْب﴾ فيأتيكم الْعَذَاب. ﴿وَلَا أَقُول إِنِّي ملك﴾ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ، وَلَكِنِّي رَسُولٌ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ. ﴿إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلا مَا يُوحى إِلَيّ﴾ أَيْ: إِنَّمَا أُبَلِّغُ عَنِ اللَّهِ مَا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ.
