Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 2 · Page 20771

Translation · EN

"Say, shall we invoke, besides Allah,"—meaning, shall we worship—"that which does not benefit us and does not harm us?" referring to the idols.

"And shall we turn back on our heels,"—that is, shall we return to disbelief—"after Allah has guided us? [We would then be] like one whom the devils have enticed in the earth,"—that is, they have overcome him—"confused [while] he has companions inviting him to guidance, [saying], 'Come to us.'"—that is, like a man who has lost his way in a desert land, having companions all calling him toward the path, yet he remains bewildered. This is a parable of one who goes astray after having received guidance. Allah said to the Prophet: "Say, 'Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance,'" and it is that which you are upon.

Surah Al-An'am from verse (72) to verse (73).
