"And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal," meaning: they did not revere Him with His true reverence, "when they said, 'Allah did not reveal anything to a human being.'" The interpretation of Al-Hasan is: they are the Jews, [who used to] say, "These are an unlettered people," meaning: the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions. They confused them, so they said: "Allah did not reveal anything to a human being." For prophets used to come from Allah, and yet they did not
