Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 2 · Page 252112

Translation · EN

"And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy." Al-Hasan said: God made the enemies of the prophets "devils of mankind," who are the polytheists, "and of the jinn," meaning the devils of the jinn, "inspiring to one another decorative speech in deception."

It is what the devils whisper to the children of Adam that diverts them. Muhammad said: Decorative speech is that which has been adorned, gilded, and made to appear beautiful. The root of 'zukhruf' is gold, and 'ghururan' (in deception) is a verbal noun; as if He said: they deceive with a deception. "But had your Lord willed, they would not have done it," meaning: had God willed, the devils would not have inspired it to mankind. "So leave them and that which they fabricate," then He commanded their fighting afterward.
