{Eight mates}: Meaning, eight kinds. {Of the sheep, two, and of the goats, two}: a male and a female, and the singular of each pair is a 'zauj' (mate). {Say, 'Has He forbidden the two males'}: phrased as an interrogation.
(p. 102) {Or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain}: of male or female; meaning, or has He forbidden all of that? For He has not forbidden anything of it.
{Inform me with knowledge if you are truthful}: that Allah has forbidden this; and this refers to what they have forbidden of the livestock.
﴿ثَمَانِيَة أَزوَاج﴾ أَيْ: أَصْنَافٍ ﴿مِنَ الضَّأْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَمن الْمعز اثْنَيْنِ﴾ ذَكَرًا وَأُنْثَى، وَالْوَاحِدُ: زوجٌ ﴿قُلْ آلذكرين حرم﴾ على الِاسْتِفْهَام.
(ل ١٠٢) ﴿أَمِ الأُنْثَيَيْنِ أَمَّا اشْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أَرْحَام الْأُنْثَيَيْنِ﴾ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنْثَى؛ أَيْ: أَمْ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ حَرَّمَ؟ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُحَرِّمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا.
﴿نَبِّئُونِي بِعِلْمٍ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ﴾ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ هَذَا؛ وَهُوَ مَا حَرَّمُوا من الْأَنْعَام.
