[Allah] will say, 'Enter among nations'—meaning, with nations—'that have passed away before you of the jinn and mankind into the Fire.' 'The last of them will say to the first of them, "Our Lord, these led us astray,"'—every nation says this to the one that preceded it—'"so give them a double punishment of the Fire,"' the verse.
Muhammad said: Meaning, a doubled punishment. The term "di'f" (double/multiple) in the language of the Arabs is of two types:
﴿قَالَ ادخُلُوا فِي أُمَم﴾ أَيْ: مَعَ أممٍ ﴿قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإِنْسِ فِي النَّار﴾ ﴿قَالَتْ أُخْرَاهُمْ لأُولاهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَؤُلاءِ أضلونا﴾ كل أمةٍ تَقوله أُخْرَاهَا لِأُولَاهَا ﴿فَآتِهِمْ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا من النَّار﴾ الْآيَةَ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: أَيْ: عَذَابًا مُضَاعَفًا، وَالضِّعْفُ فِي كَلَامِ الْعَرَبِ عَلَى ضَرْبَيْنِ:
