the sun. As for the soul of the disbeliever, it departs with a stench worse than that of a rotting carcass. The angels who took his soul ascend with it, and other angels meet them below the heaven and ask: 'Who is this?' They reply: 'This is such-and-such son of such-and-such, who used to do such-and-such'—referring to the evil of his deeds. They say: 'No welcome to him, return him.'

Ibn Abbas said: 'He is returned to a valley called Barahut, in the lowest depths of the seven earths.' [This is] from the hadith of Yahya ibn Muhammad.

Regarding His saying: "And they will not enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle," it means: the hole of the needle. Ibn Mas'ud was asked about the 'camel' (al-jamal), and he said: 'It is the mate of the she-camel.'

"And thus do We recompense the criminals," meaning: the polytheists.
