"[Those] who hinder [others] from the way of Allah," for they were in the world, "and seek to make it crooked," meaning they seek to make the way of Allah crooked.
﴿الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ﴾ إِذْ كَانُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿(وَيَبْغُونَهَا عوجا﴾ يَبْغُونَ سَبِيل الله عوجا.
