"Do they wait," meaning: are they waiting, "for anything except its outcome?" Qatadah said: meaning the recompense for it in the Hereafter.
"On the day its outcome comes, those who had forgotten it," meaning: abandoned it, "before," in the worldly life, and did not believe in it, "will say, 'Our Lord's messengers had indeed come with the truth'" when we were in the world. They will believe then, when belief will be of no benefit to them, "'So are there for us any intercessors to intercede for us'" so that we may not be punished, "'or could we be sent back'" to
