"So the earthquake seized them." Al-Hasan said: The earth shook beneath them. "And they became within their home [fallen] prone," meaning: they had perished.
Muhammad said: The original meaning of juthum in the speech of the Arabs is: kneeling upon the knees.
Surat al-A'raf from verse (80) to verse (84).
﴿فَأَخَذتهم الرجفة﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: تَحَرَّكَتْ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضُ ﴿فأصحبوا فِي دَارهم جاثمين﴾ أَيْ: قَدْ هَلَكُوا.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْجُثُومُ أَصْلُهُ فِي كَلَامِ الْعَرَبِ: البروك على الركب.
