And His saying: "while they are playing"—meaning during the day.
Muhammad said: It is said to everyone who is engaged in a useless deed and in misguidance: "You are merely a player"; meaning: you are occupied with what does not profit you.
وَقَوله: ﴿ضحى﴾ يَعْنِي: نَهَارا ﴿وهم يَلْعَبُونَ﴾.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يُقَالُ لِكُلِّ مَنْ كَانَ فِي عملٍ لَا يُجْدِي وَفِي ضَلَالٍ: إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ لاعبٌ؛ أَيْ: فِي غَيْرِ مَا يُجْدِي عَلَيْك.
