the qisas (retaliation) and forgives them, or rescues them from aggression, or saves them from drowning, burning, or a predatory beast. The most excellent way of saving a life is to rescue it from its disbelief and misguidance.

Muhammad said: Some exegetes mentioned regarding His saying: "it is as if he had killed all mankind," meaning: he shall be punished just as the killer of all mankind is punished. And whoever saves a life shall be rewarded for saving it just as one who saves the lives of all mankind is rewarded.

Yahya narrated from al-Mu'alla, from Simak ibn Harb, from Qabus ibn al-Mukhariq, from his father, who said:

A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what if a man confronts me, intending to take my life and my property? What should I do with him?" He said: "Call upon him to fear Allah (by adjuring him)." He said: "I adjured him by Allah, but he did not desist." He said: "Seek the aid of the authority against him." He said: "There is no authority in our vicinity." He said: "Seek the aid of the Muslims against him." He said: "We are in a desert land, and there is no one near us." He said: "Then fight him to protect your property until you prevent him, or you will be recorded among the martyrs of the Hereafter."
