"And ask them about the town which was by the sea, when they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath," meaning: when they transgressed.
"On the day of their Sabbath, their fish came to them openly," meaning: appearing in the water.
"Thus do We test them," meaning: We try them.
﴿وَاسْأَلْهُمْ عَنِ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ حَاضِرَةَ الْبَحْرِ إِذْ يَعْدُونَ فِي السبت﴾ أَيْ: يَعْتَدُونَ.
﴿يَوْمَ سَبْتِهِمْ شُرَّعًا﴾ أَيْ: شَوَارِعٌ فِي الْمَاءِ.
﴿كَذَلِكَ نبلوهم﴾ أَي: نبتليهم.
