"And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants" up to His saying: "We have testified." Ibn Abbas's interpretation is:
Allah caused Adam to descend in India, then He wiped his back and brought forth from it every soul He is to create until the Day of Resurrection. Then He said: "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes, we bear witness." So He said to the angels: "Bear witness," and they replied: "We bear witness." Al-Hasan said: Then He returned them into the loins of Adam, "lest you should say," meaning: so that you do not say, "on the Day of Resurrection, 'Indeed, we were of this unaware.'"
