"And their brethren," meaning: the brethren of the polytheists among the devils, "prolong their error for them," meaning: they increase it for them, "then they do not cease" [to persist] in their destruction.
Muhammad said: It is from the 'madad' (reinforcement/extension) with which they reinforce them "in error": [by providing them] with the causes of error. It is said: [I extended him] with weapons, and I provided him with such-and-such; [referring to] that with which he provides him. And some of them mention the dead:
﴿وإخوانهم﴾ يَعْنِي: إِخْوَانَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنَ الشَّيَاطِينَ ﴿يمدونهم﴾ (ل ١١٥) أَيْ: يَزِيدُونَهُمْ ﴿فِي الْغَيِّ ثُمَّ لَا يقصرون﴾ فِي هَلَكَتِهِمْ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: هُوَ مِنَ الْمَدَدِ الَّذِي يَمُدُّونَهُمْ ﴿فِي الغي﴾: بِأَسْبَابِ الْغَيِّ، يُقَالُ: [مَدَدْتُهُ] بِالسِّلاحِ، وَأَمْدَدْتُهُ بِكَذَا؛ لِمَا يَمُدُّهُ بِهِ. وَلِبَعْضِهِمْ يَذْكُرُ الأَمْوَاتَ:
