Regarding His saying: "But if they intend to deceive you" (Qur'an 8:62), Al-Hasan said: It means the polytheists. He is saying: If they manifest faith to you while concealing disbelief in order to deceive you through that, so that you grant them the rights of the believers and refrain from their blood and wealth, "then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers."
قَوْلُهُ: ﴿وَإِنْ يُرِيدُوا أَنْ يَخْدَعُوكَ﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: الْمُشْرِكِينَ، يَقُولُ: إِنْ هُمْ أَظْهَرُوا لَكَ الإِيمَانَ وَأَسَرُّوا الْكُفْرَ؛ لِيَخْدَعُوكَ بِذَلِكَ؛ لِتُعْطِيَهُمْ حُقُوقَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَتَكُفَّ عَنْ دِمَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ ﴿فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ اللَّهُ هُوَ الَّذِي أيدك﴾ أعانك ﴿بنصره وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾
