Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 2 · Page 65267

Translation · EN

"The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another," meaning: some of them are allies of others. "They enjoin what is wrong," meaning disbelief in Allah—Glorified is He—"and forbid what is right," meaning faith in Allah, "and they close their hands," meaning: they do not extend them with spending for the sake of the truth.

"They have forgotten Allah," meaning: they have abandoned remembering Him with sincerity in their hearts, "so He has forgotten them," meaning He has left them and will not remind them of the good with which He reminds the believers. "Indeed, the hypocrites—it is they who are the defiantly disobedient," meaning: by it, the disobedience of polytheism.

Surah at-Tawbah from verse (68) to verse (70).
