Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 2 · Page 65

Translation · EN

Abdullah ibn Salam and a group of Muslims from the People of the Scripture came to the Prophet at the time of the Dhuhr prayer and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, our homes are far away, and we have no place to speak other than the mosque. Our people, when they saw that we have believed in Allah and His Messenger and have left them and their religion, showed us hostility and swore that they would neither associate with us nor sit with us, and this has become burdensome to us.'

While they were complaining about this to the Prophet, this verse was revealed to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). When the Messenger of Allah recited it to them, they said: 'We are content with Allah, His Messenger, and the believers as allies.' Bilal then gave the call to prayer, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went out, and the people were praying, some standing, some bowing, and some prostrating. He encountered a poor man begging, so the Messenger of Allah called him and said to him: 'Did anyone give you anything?' The man replied: 'Yes.' He asked: 'What was it?' He replied: 'A silver ring.' He asked: 'Who gave it to you?' The man said: 'That man standing there,' and it was Ali. He asked: 'In what state did he give it to you?' The man said: 'He gave it to me while he was bowing.' They claimed that the Messenger of Allah then proclaimed the greatness of Allah (takbir) at that event."

Surah Al-Ma'idah from verse (58) to verse (60).
