["But when He gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it"]—they withheld the right of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)—["and turned away"]—from righteousness—["while they were refusing"]—to follow the command of Allah.
﴿فَلَمَّا آتَاهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ بَخِلُوا بِهِ﴾ مَنَعُوا حَقَّ اللَّهِ ﷿ ﴿وتولوا﴾ عَن الصّلاح ﴿وهم معرضون﴾ عَن أَمر الله
