"Let them laugh a little." Qatadah said: It means: in this world. "And let them weep much." It means: in the Fire.
Yahya: On the authority of Abu Umayyah, on the authority of Qatadah, that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari said: "Weeping will be unleashed upon the people of the Fire; if ships were sent into their tears, they would sail."
﴿فليضحكوا قَلِيلا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: يَعْنِي: فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿وليبكوا كثيرا﴾ يَعْنِي فِي النَّارِ.
يحيى: عَنْ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ؛
أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيَّ قَالَ: " إِنَّهُ يُسَلَّطُ عَلَى أَهْلِ النَّارِ الْبُكَاءَ؛ فَلَوْ تُرْسَلُ السُّفُنُ فِي [ … ] أَعْيُنُهِمْ لجرت ".
