"And on the day We gather them, [it will be] as if they had not remained [in the world] except for an hour of the day," that is: in light of the length of time they will remain in the Fire. "They will recognize each other among them," meaning: they will recognize one another.
Al-Hasan said:
It was mentioned to us that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There are three places where no one will ask anyone else: when the scales are placed, until one knows whether his scale will be heavy or light; when the [records of] deeds fly..."
﴿وَيَوْم نحشرهم كَأَن لم يَلْبَثُوا﴾ أَيْ: فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿إِلا سَاعَةً من النَّهَار﴾ فِي طُوْلِ مَا هُمْ لابِثُونَ فِي النَّار ﴿يَتَعَارَفُونَ بَينهم﴾ أَيْ: يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا.
قَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: " ثَلاثَةُ مَوَاطِنَ لَا يَسْأَلُ فِيهَا أحدٌ أَحَدًا: إِذَا وُضِعَتِ الْمَوَازِينُ؛ حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ أَيُثْقُلُ مِيزَانُهُ أَمْ يَخِفُّ، وَإِذَا تَطَايَرَتِ
