Translation · EN

"Say, 'Have you considered: if His punishment should come to you by night,'" meaning: at night, "'or by day, what is it that the criminals wish to hasten of it?'"

Muhammad said: "'By night or by day'" is in the accusative case denoting the time. And His saying: "'What is it that... wish to hasten,'" the meaning is: which thing? It sometimes comes with the meaning: what is it that they wish to hasten?

﴿قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَاكُمْ عَذَابُهُ بياتا﴾ يَعْنِي: لَيْلا ﴿أَوْ نَهَارًا مَاذَا يستعجل مِنْهُ المجرمون﴾.

قَالَ محمدٌ: ﴿بَيَاتًا أَوْ نَهَارًا﴾ منصوبٌ عَلَى الْوَقْتِ، وَقَوْلُهُ: ﴿مَاذَا يستعجل﴾ الْمَعْنى: أَي شَيْء، وَقد يَجِيء بِمَعْنى: مَا الَّذِي يستعجل؟
