"And it was revealed to Noah that no one will believe from your people except those who have already believed." Qatada said: That was when he invoked [God] against them; he said: "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth any inhabitant among the disbelievers."
"So do not despair"—meaning: do not grieve for them—"of what they used to do."
﴿وَأُوحِيَ إِلَى نُوحٍ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يُؤْمِنَ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ إِلا مَنْ قد آمن﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: ذَلِكَ حِينَ دَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ؛ فَقَالَ: ﴿رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا﴾.
﴿فَلَا تبتئس﴾ أَيْ: لَا تَحْزَنْ لَهُمْ ﴿بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ﴾.
