"And when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he mistrusted them," meaning: he disapproved of them. "And he felt within himself apprehension," meaning: he harbored fear because they did not eat. "They said: Do not fear, for we have been sent to the people of Lot," to destroy them.
﴿فَلَمَّا رَأَى أَيْدِيَهُمْ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نكرهم﴾ أنكرهم ﴿وأوجس مِنْهُم خيفة﴾ أَيْ: أَضْمَرَ خَوْفًا إِذْ لَمْ يَأْكُلُوا ﴿فَقَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَى قوم لوطٍ﴾ لنهلكهم
