Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 2 · Page 92180

Translation · EN

[He] said, 'If only I had power against you, or could take refuge in a strong pillar.' Qatada said: 'Meaning, a strong clan.' They pushed against the door, and the angels said, 'O Lot, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; they will not reach you. So travel with your family during a portion of the night,'—meaning, travel with them in the darkness of the night—'and let not any among you look back, except your wife; indeed, that which strikes them will strike her.' He said, 'No; rather, destroy them right now!' They replied, 'Is not the morning near?' Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, blinded their eyes with one of his wings, and they remained through their night unable to see.
