"And O my people, let not your opposition to me," meaning: do not let your enmity toward me, "cause you to be struck," due to your disbelief in me, by the punishment of Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—"similar to what struck the people of Noah," up to the end of the verse.
Muhammad said: "[la yajrimannakum]" has the root meaning: "let it not cause you to earn." You say: "jarimtu kadha" (I committed such and such), meaning: I earned it. Someone cited the verse:
(An outcast of the kin and held hostage to sin ... for what my hands committed and my tongue perpetrated.)
His saying—Mighty and Majestic is He—: "And the people of Lot are not far from you," meaning: the lesson of the people of Lot is near to you.
﴿وَيَا قَوْمِ لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِي﴾ أَيْ: لَا تَحْمِلَنَّكُمْ عَدَاوَتِي ﴿أَنْ يُصِيبكُم﴾ بِكُفْرِكُمْ بِي مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ ﷿ ﴿مِثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قوم نوح﴾ الْآيَة.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: (يجر مِنْكُم) أَصْلُهُ: يَكْسِبَنَّكُمْ؛ تَقُولُ: جَرِمْتُ كَذَا؛ بِمَعْنَى كَسَبْتُ، وَأَنْشَدَ بَعْضُهُمْ:
(طَرِيدُ عشيرةٍ وَرَهِينُ ذنبٍ … بِمَا جَرَمَتْ يَدَيَّ وَجَنَى لِسَانِي)
قَوْلُهُ ﷿: ﴿وَمَا قَوْمُ لوطٍ مِنْكُمْ بيعيد﴾ يَقُولُ: الْعِظَةُ بِقَوْمِ لوطٍ قَرِيبَةٌ
