'And O my people, work according to your position,' meaning: according to your religion, 'Indeed, I am working' according to my religion, 'You will come to know to whom will come a punishment that will disgrace him, and who is a liar. So wait, indeed I am with you, a waiter,' similar to His saying, the Exalted: 'So wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait.' He is threatening them that if they persist in their religion, the punishment will come upon them.
﴿وَيَا قَوْمِ اعْمَلُوا عَلَى مَكَانَتِكُمْ﴾ أَيْ: عَلَى دِينِكُمْ ﴿إِنِّي عاملٌ﴾ عَلَى دِينِي ﴿سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ يَأْتِيهِ عذابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَمَنْ هُوَ كاذبٌ وَارْتَقِبُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ رَقِيبٌ﴾ كَقَوْلِهِ ﷿: ﴿فَانْتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعكُمْ من المنتظرين﴾ يُخَوِّفُهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ إِنْ ثَبَتُوا عَلَى دينهم، جَاءَهُم الْعَذَاب
