Translation · EN

'Away with Madyan, as Thamud were sent away.'

Muhammad said: The meaning is that they have been cast far from the mercy of Allah, the Exalted. (Bu'dan - being cast far away) is in the accusative case because it is an infinitive (masdar). It is said: Ba'ida - with a kasra on the 'ayn - yab'udu, when it is the distance of destruction (halkah); and ba'uda - with a damma on the 'ayn - yab'udu bu'dan, when it means to be distant (na'a).

﴿أَلا بُعْدًا لِمَدْيَنَ كَمَا بَعِدَتْ ثَمُود﴾.

قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: الْمَعْنَى: أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ بُعِدُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ - تَعَالَى - وَنَصَبَ (بُعْدًا) عَلَى الْمَصْدِرِ؛ يُقَالُ: بَعِدَ - بِكَسْرِ الْعَيْنِ - يَبْعُدُ؛ إِذَا كَانَ بُعْدَ هلكةٍ، وَبَعُدَ بِضَمِّ الْعَيْنِ يَبْعُدُ بُعْدًا؛ إِذَا نَأَى.

سُورَة هود من الْآيَة (٩٦) إِلَى الْآيَة (١٠٠).
