Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 1072

Translation · EN

and Abdullah ibn Rawahah and Ka'b ibn Malik. "And they defended themselves after they were wronged"—meaning: they defended themselves with words, that is: they [satirized] on behalf of the Prophet of Allah after the polytheists had wronged them. "And those who have done wrong will come to know"—that is, those who committed shirk among the poets and others—"to what final destination they will return" from before Allah on the Day of Resurrection; meaning: they will return from before Him to the Fire.

Muhammad said: "Ayya" (which) is in the accusative (nasb) case because it is one of the interrogative nouns, and what precedes it does not govern it.
