"Or you have a house made of gold ornamentation"—meaning: of gold. "Or you ascend into the sky, and we will not believe in your ascension"—meaning: your ascent either; for the sorcerers might do that, bewitching the eyes of the people until they alter [their perception]. "Until you bring down to us a book that we may read"—addressed to every individual specifically, from Allah to so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and so-and-so, son of so-and-so, [saying]: Believe in Muhammad, for he is My Messenger. "Say: Exalted is my Lord! Was I anything but a human messenger?"—meaning: Did the messengers in the past come with a book from Allah to every individual specifically?! You are too insignificant in the sight of Allah for Him to do this for you.
﴿أَوْ يَكُونَ لَكَ بَيْتٌ مِنْ زخرف﴾ أَيْ: مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ﴿أَوْ تَرْقَى﴾ تَصْعَدُ ﴿فِي السَّمَاءِ وَلَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لرقيك﴾ لِصُعُودِكَ أَيْضًا؛ فَإِنَّ السَّحَرَةَ قَدْ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ، فَتَأْخُذُ بِأَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ حَتَّى تُبَدِّلَ ﴿حَتَّى تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا كتابا نقرؤه﴾ إِلَى كُلَّ إِنْسَانِ بِعَيْنِهِ، مِنَ الله إِلَى فلَان ابْن فلَان وَفُلَان ابْن فلَان وَفُلَان ابْن فُلانٍ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِمُحَمَّدٍ؛ فَإِنَّهُ رَسُولِي. ﴿قُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّي هَلْ كنت إِلَّا بشرا رَسُولا﴾ أَيْ: هَلْ كَانَتِ الرُّسُلُ تَأْتِي فِيمَا مَضَى بِكِتَابٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ إِلَى كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ بِعَيْنِهِ؟! أَنْتُمْ أَهْوَنُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ أَنْ يفعل بكم هَذَا.
