"And when the Word falls upon them," meaning: when the wrath becomes due. "We shall bring forth for them a beast from the earth that will speak to them," and in some readings: (it will converse with them), "that the people had no certainty in Our signs." Some have said: It says, "That the people were not certain of Me."
Yahya, from Sa'id, from Qatadah: that Ibn Abbas used to say, "It is a beast that has"
﴿وَإِذا وَقع القَوْل عَلَيْهِم﴾ أَيْ: وَجَبَ الْغَضَبُ ﴿أَخْرَجْنَا لَهُمْ دَابَّة من الأَرْض تكلمهم﴾ وَفِي بَعْضِ الْقِرَاءَةِ: (تُحَدِّثُهُمْ) ﴿أَنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا لَا يُوقِنُونَ﴾ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: تَقُولُ: إِنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا بِي لَا يُوقِنُونَ.
يَحْيَى: عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ؛ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ يَقُولُ: " هِيَ دَابَّةٌ ذَاتُ
