Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 118918

Translation · EN

"And he became in the city, fearful, vigilant" on account of his killing of the soul; he was anticipating being seized. Muhammad said: The meaning of (yataraqqabu) is: he awaits an evil that might befall him. "And behold, the one who sought his help the day before was calling for his help," meaning: he was seeking his assistance. "Moses said to him," to the Israelite, "Indeed, you are a clear deviant," meaning: manifest in error. [Then, mercy for him overtook Moses].
