"And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them"—meaning the Copt—the Israelite let go of the Copt. "And he said: O Moses," the Israelite says it, "do you want to kill me as you killed a soul yesterday? You only want"—meaning you do not want—"to be a tyrant," that is: a killer.
Muhammad said: It is said the meaning is: when the one who sought help wanted Moses to strike the one who was an enemy to them both, and Moses did not do so, but rather said to the one seeking help: "Indeed, you are a clear deviant," the one seeking help said to him: "O Moses, do you want to kill me?" up to the end of the verse. And Allah knows best.
The origin of the word "al-jabbar" (tyrant) in the language is: the arrogant one who does not humble himself before the command of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, [on earth].
Surat al-Qasas from (verse 20 to verse 21).
﴿فَلَمَّا أَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْطِشَ بِالَّذِي هُوَ عَدو لَهما﴾ (ل ٢٥٤) بِالْقِبْطِيِّ خَلَّى الْإِسْرَائِيلِيُّ عَنِ الْقِبْطِيِّ ﴿وَقَالَ يَا مُوسَى﴾ الْإِسْرَائِيلِيُّ يَقُوْلُهُ: ﴿أَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تَقْتُلَنِي كَمَا قَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا بِالأَمْسِ إِنْ تُرِيدُ﴾ مَا تُرِيدُ ﴿إِلا أَنْ تَكُونَ جبارا﴾ أَيْ: قَتَّالًا.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَقِيلَ الْمَعْنَى: فَلَمَّا أَنْ أَرَادَ الْمُسْتَصْرِخُ أَنْ يَبْطِشَ مُوسَى بِالَّذِي هُوَ عَدُوٌّ لَهُمَا، وَلَمْ يَفْعَلْ مُوسَى، وَقَالَ لِلْمُسْتَصْرِخِ: ﴿إِنَّكَ لَغَوِيٌّ مُبِينٌ﴾ قَالَ لَهُ الْمُسْتَصْرِخُ: ﴿يَا مُوسَى أَتُرِيدُ أَن تقتلني﴾ الْآيَةُ، فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
وَأَصْلُ الْجَبَّارِ فِي اللُّغَةِ: الْمُتَعَظِّمُ الَّذِي لَا يَتَوَاضَعُ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ ﷿ [فِي الأَرْض].
