"Indeed, the best of those you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy." Some have interpreted His saying: (The strong) as follows: Moses asked them, "Is there a well here other than this one?" They replied, "Yes, but there is a stone upon it that only forty men can lift." So, Moses lifted it by himself.
Al-Hasan interpreted the trustworthiness she perceived in him as follows: When she came to summon him, he said to her, "Walk behind me," as he disliked walking behind her.
﴿إِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْأمين﴾ تَفْسِيرُ بَعْضِهِمْ فِي قَوْلِهِ: (الْقَوِيُّ): أَنه سَأَلَهُمَا: هَل هَاهُنَا بِئْرٌ غَيْرُ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَتَا: نَعَمْ، وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْهَا صَخْرَةٌ لَا يَرْفَعُهَا إِلَّا أَرْبَعُونَ رَجُلًا، فَرَفَعَهَا مُوسَى وَحْدَهُ.
وَتَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ: أَنَّ الْأَمَانَةَ الَّتِي رَأَتْ مِنْهُ؛ أَنَّهَا حِينَ جَاءَتْهُ تَدْعُوهُ. قَالَ لَهَا: كُوْنِي ورائي وَكره أَن يستدبرها.
